Contact lens firms takes action against limescale

By Adrian Galbreth

The details of how contact lens giant Coopervision worked to combat limescale have been released.

In a statement to approvedbusiness.co.uk, Environmental Treatment Concepts (ETC) explained that Coopervision (UK) is based in Fareham in Hampshire, where there is hard water.

According to ETC, it has been providing units to the company"s humidifiers since 2001, but steam problems began in 2007 which created extra maintenance work in order to combat issues of scaling.

It provided ENiGMA Scalewatcher units to prevent electronic limescale to the contact lens firm.

The company said that this had eased the problem significantly, upping productivity.

It claimed that a Coopervision representative had been "amazed and pleased".

ETC was founded by John Thompson in 1989.

He was a former naval engineer and still works in co-operative research into electronic water descaling.

ETC, which sells equipment and provides solutions and advice for hard water problems, received the What"s New in Industry Award for services to British industry in 1990.
