Arsenal defender William Gallas" eye is so swollen he cannot even put in his contact lenses, leaving him doubtful for Arsenal"s encounter with Chelsea on Sunday.
Gallas had to leave the pitch at half time in Arsenal"s Champions" League victory over Standard Liege on Tuesday after a clash of heads with team mate Andre Arshavin.
He was substituted due to a combination of the swollen eye and an ankle injury but it is the eye which is leaving him doubtful for the crucial clash.
Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, said: "There is a big question mark about him at the moment. The ankle should be all right but the eye is still very, very, very swollen."
"He wears contact lenses and at the moment he would not get them in," he added.
Optometrist Jill Dillon told the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune last month that children who play football could benefit from wearing contact lenses.
