The size of the country"s contact lens market continued to grow in the second quarter of 2010, according to the latest figures.
Figures issued by market research company GfK and seen by Optician Online show that the overall value of the contact lens market has also grown throughout the UK, rising by 5.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2010 compared with the same period last year
According to GfK, a major factor in their rise was the record sales seen in the daily disposable and silicone hydrogel markets.
Optician Online reports the figures as showing that there were 106 million daily disposable lenses sold in the period at a total cost of £56.2 million, with over 90 per cent of sales being clear spherical lenses.
Recently, optometrist Shelly Toltz pointed out that daily disposable contact lenses are often ideal for teens on the move, with the products likely to be a popular investment as they prepare to head back to school and college in the coming weeks.
