Contact lenses have played a major part in helping actress Natalie Portman to transform for her new film role.
The Hollywood star appears in the new Darren Aronofsky film Black Swan, in which her character attempts to play two different characters in a version of Swan Lake - the innocent white swan and the evil black swan, Oregon Live reported.
Portman has been nominated for both a Golden Globe and Screen Actor's Guild award for her performance, which was assisted by the use of special contact lenses to help her achieve the "devilish" look needed for the part of the black swan.
The lenses were created by theatrical contact lens maker Kevin Carter, who told the source: "They're soft contact lenses, regular day wear. We use a tiny paintbrush and we actually use dyes, not paint."
Earlier this year, contact lenses were used by Robert Earel Haley in the new adaption of Nightmare on Elm Street in order to transform him into the hideous Freddie Krueger.
