A new guide to help company drivers understand eyecare legislation has been published by Specsavers Corporate Eyecare.
Included in the guide are details of the 2011 EU regulations affecting employers and fleet managers and what they can do to safeguard staff.
It also features research by Specsavers Corporate Eyecare about the many distractions which can affect company car and fleet drivers, as well as the need for full eye examinations which can help to determine other health problems.
Laura Butler, corporate account manager at the organisation, commented: "The current number plate eyesight test was devised in the 1930s. Since then, driving conditions have changed beyond all recognition. It is right that legislation should change to reflect this and it is vital that employers fully understand the regulations and their implications."
According to road safety group GEM Motoring Assist, one of the key precautions drivers can take to safeguard themselves on the roads this winter is by wearing any prescription glasses or contact lenses, as the slippery roads enhance the need for good vision even further.
