Contact lenses "have to be stored correctly"

Contact lens wearers have to safeguard their eye health by maintaining high standards of hygiene, it has been suggested.

The Irish Independent"s Health and Living supplement pointed out that dirty contact lenses can lead to problems such as eye infections.

"Rinse your case, leave it open to dry after use each day and replace it monthly. Clean the case each week using a clean toothbrush and contact lens solution," the source advised.

The publication also said that contact lens wearers should disinfect the products by soaking them in solution in the case for however long the manufacturer recommends.

In addition, the supplement warned against re-using disinfecting solution or just topping it up and said wearers have to use a fresh batch of solution each time they want to store their contact lenses.

Cooper Vision and other contact lens manufacturers regularly stress the importance of caring for lenses in the manner recommended by the products" manufacturer.
