Following a healthy diet is one of the most effective ways of treating eyesight, according to one expert.
Former health journalist Sarah Zerbib said that it is easy to incorporate plenty of fruit and vegetables into a person"s dietary regime, and doing so will keep eyes healthy and stave off the onset of certain diseases.
She explained: "Good eye health is maintained by a healthy diet and plenty of exercise. Leafy green vegetables and fruit such as capsicums and blueberries [are good]. Cycling and walking are all good forms of exercise."
The expert added that highly vigorous forms of exercise should be avoided if people have existing eye conditions or a family history and they should therefore visit a clinician.
Recent research from the American Optometric Association found that eating foods rich in six nutrients - antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, essential fatty acids, vitamins C and E and the mineral zinc - can boost eye health throughout life.
