Japanese contact lenses manufacturer Menicon has announced that its subsidiary Menicon Singapore has opened its latest research and development (R&D) facility at International Business Park in Singapore.
The 6,000 sq m building becomes the firm's first manufacturing facility producing daily disposable lenses, and will also be home to the company's first R&D centre in Asia outside Japan.
In addition, the company revealed that the $97 million (£59 million) facility will feature quality control systems and state-of-the-art manufacturing technology which have all been developed by Menicon itself.
"Menicon is dedicated to all areas of the contact lens business including material development, lens design and the manufacture of contact lenses and care solutions. The new facility will expand Menicon's capacity and competitiveness," the company stated.
Last November, Menicon announced a new agreement with Optimed Ltd to become the exclusive distributor for its CAPTIV8 communication services and i-Vue content-driven digital signage software for North America.
