Broadcaster Fiona Bruce read the news without contact lenses last week, instead opting for glasses on one of the rare occasions she does so.
The 47-year-old, who regularly reads news during the prime time Six O'Clock News and Ten O'Clock News broadcasts, always wears contact lenses for vision correction, though audiences are generally not aware of this.
However, due to a small eye infection last week she did not wear make up and chose to don glasses until it cleared up and she could return to using contact lenses.
Audience reaction to the move was not favourable, with the Daily Mail reporting that many members of the public and commented on how the glasses did not suit her – a similar outcry to when the newsreader wore glasses in 2004.
However, the infection has now cleared up and Bruce will resume her normal duties wearing her usual contact lenses.
