Free eyesight checks "will prevent vision deterioration"

Free vision checks are being offered to residents in Worcestershire in a bid to reduce the number of people suffering from eye problems in the area.

People living in Broadway, Evesham Vale, can take advantage of the opportunity to have their eyesight assessed for free at Broadway Library on Monday August 15th, providing they are over 50 years of age, the Tewkesbury Admag reported.

It is one of a number of similar schemes taking place around the UK to try and curb the number of people being diagnosed with eye conditions which have progressed to the point where effective treatment is difficult to administer.

Viv Hall, manager of Broadway Library, told the newspaper: "I would encourage residents to make the effort to come along, as a five minute check up could save your sight."

It comes after Rosie Gavzey, director of the Eyecare Trust, said regular checks to see whether people's vision is deteriorating can ensure that prescriptions are up to date and people are benefitting from the best possible eyecare.
