People on the hunt for new contact lenses will find that they can help to fulfil a number of lifestyle needs that glasses can not.
Dr Lil Linton, president of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, explained that the choice to use contact lenses over glasses is dependent on the individual, but there are certain aspects that make contacts more appealing.
"It depends on the lifestyle choice and what the patient needs. The bottom line is what's in the best interest of the patient," he told Healthzone.
The expert said that contact lenses are a great choice for people who play sports, as they do not pose a risk to sight, while they do not have to be carried round all day, like glasses can when not being worn to read.
In addition, for people who suffer from keratoconus – an eye condition in which the cornea thins and causes a bulge to develop in the eye – specially made contact lenses can help to solve the problem, the expert concluded.
